|The Seattle area and Puget Sound are home to some interesting and Salty Nautical Place Names.
Today, July 29th (as I write this), the Washington State Ferry "Tacoma" lost power, was adrift, and had to be towed to "Eagle Harbor" for repairs. The ferry was enroute from Seattle to Bainbridge Island with about 400 passengers and about 140 vehicles. Note: Our tour to Bremerton for the Memorial Service aboard the USS TURNER JOY (DD-951) Museum Ship, also includes a ride on a Washington State Ferry. It is a great tour.
Check out your Puget Sound nautical chart, or even Google Maps, and you will find places with names that a nautical buff will love, such as: Admiralty Inlet, Quartermaster Harbor, Deception Pass, Point No Point, Three Tree Point, Paradise Cove, Poverty Bay (a boat owner can relate to that), Commencement Bay, Point Defiance, Fox Island, Gig Harbor and Steamboat Island.
So if you have not already signed up for the USS BASILONE 2014 Seattle & Pacific Northwest Reunion, dust off those barnacles and give Jim Goodspeed a call. We still have a month and a half until our Sept 14th Registration & Check-In Day.
Side Note: "Leavenworth Is Open For Business (and Visitors)". A rep from the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce was on KOMO Radio today, to remind people that the big Firestorm in Washington State has not endangered that "Bavarian Village" in the Cascade Mountains. The fires have, however, affected the tourism trade as fewer visitors are coming because they mistakenly think the fires are close. A tour to Leavenworth is scheduled during the BASILONE reunion.
This week, July 28 thru August 3rd, is Seattle Seafair FLEET WEEK with the Navy Ship visits, Hydroplane Races and BLUE ANGELS Air Show over Lake Washington.
Wish you were here. Still time to come to the BASILONE Reunion!
