Make your 2014 Reunion plans early. This Pacific Northwest Reunion will be proposed in Gettysburg by your co-hosts, Bob and Shirley Terhune and Dee and Jim Goodspeed.

If you enjoyed the 2002 Reunion in Placerville, California or the 2005 Reunion in Maine, you may expect the same quality events in 2014 since the same hosts are involved and JERRY will be doing all tours.

Get ready for the Space needle, coffee at the original Starbucks, the astronaut trainer at Boeing Museum of Flight, Mt. St. Helens Volcano, Bob Terhune's Command (USS Jewett), the Delta Trident Submarine Pier and a Salmon Bake at Tillicum Indian Village.

We need a preliminary RV count. If you will be using your RV, please let us know.

WHY NOT ADD AN ALASKAN CRUISE ?

If you are interested, please let us know. Heavily discounted (65-70%) group cruises will be offered on a 14 day (Amsterdam) and a 7 day (Princess) cruise to ALASKA. A 7 day stern wheeler (Queen of the West) cruise will also be offered out of Portland, OR on the Columbia River.

Once you approve this reunion site, advanced planning packets will be sent for cruises if you request them.

Best Regards.......................................Jim Goodspeed

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS TUKWILA, WASHINGTON ?

The Hilton Double Tree Hotel is located there, just a free, ten minute shuttle ride from SeaTac airport. Guess where you will be staying for the 2014 Northwest Reunion.

If an Alaskan Cruise is a bit much for you, add a day cruise out of Seattle to Victoria. Cruise through the San Juan Islands where there are more Orca Whales than people. Visit Totem Park, the Parliament, Buschart Gardens or take a Tally Ho Ride. This is like a budget cruise to London, eh ?

Choose the Pacific Northwest and enjoy its surprises. Fly into SeaTac airport and odds are a Boeing airliner will transport you. You will descend over Mount Rainier with its 14 glaciers. It is the largest glacial field in the "Lower 48". Be ready for apples, aplets, cotlets and Almond Roca, all Pacific Northwest delicacies. This is the land of totems, timber....software (MicroSoft) and salmon.......black berries and huckleberries......oysters and clams......Coastal Salish and Interior Yakima and Nez Perce Native Peoples whose cultures go back over 15,000 years. Learn about Salish Art.

Learn how the Raven stole the Sun..........The Thunderbird carried off the Orcas and destroyrd the trees in the interior. Enjoy a Tillicum Village salmon bake in a long house accompanied by Raven dancers.

Take home decorator glass made from Mt. St. Helens dust. Tour Seattle, the Emerald City.

See you in Seattle...................................................Jim

From Bob Terhune, Olympia, WA - The State Capitol of Washington
Gunnery Officer in 1964-65 (Med Cruise) and EMO in 1965-66 (Vietnam & Around the World Cruise)

I live 75 to 90 minutes South of Seattle and Jim & Dee Goodspeed have roped me into "co-hosting" the Pacific Northwest Reunion.

I need some help here. Does anybody know shipmates who live in Seattle or nearby? The latest Roster lists a very few folks in Washington & Oregon, and very few of those have provided e-mail addresses.

If you plan to attend, the dates are Tue, 16 September (Registration) thru
Sat, 20 September 2014 (Getaway Day). Hotel still to be determined.

What are your preferences for Excursions & Tours?

For planning purposes, we are thinking about:
Wed, 17 Sep: Seattle Area. What are your preferences? Space Needle? Monorail, Pike Place Market (See them throw Salmon?), Original Starbucks Coffee Shop, Seattle Waterfront, Pioneer Square, Underground Tour, Boeing Field Museum of Flight with Space Shuttle Trainer, Seattle Harbor Boat Tour? We cannot do it all, so we need your preferences.
Thurs, 18 Sep: Puget Sound Area: Everett Boeing Factory Tour & Future of Flight Display. Everett Navy Base (USS NIMITZ Battle Group Homeport), Washington State Ferry ride to Bremerton (home of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS), USS TURNER JOY (DD-951) Museum Ship, and 30 minutes up Hwy 3 is SUBBASE BANGOR (Trident Submarine Base), Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station KEYPORT Museum?
Again, we cannot do it all. What are your preferences?
Fri, 19 Sep: Short Day for more Seattle plus Business Meeting & Banquet?

Please send your preferences to Jim and Dee Goodspeed.

And let me know if you know of other shipmates in Washington or Oregon.

MODIFIED REUNION DATES

The Pacific Northwest Reunion will be held September 14-20, 2014. We are negotiating with the Hilton Double Tree Hotel in Tukwila, WA as a site. This hotel is a convenient 10 minute, free shuttle ride from SeaTac Airport.

We are also negotiating so we can offer a deep discounted , Group cruise to Alaska before reunion. Details for booking your cruise will be included in Phil Poplaski's annual newsletter. You will need to book and make deposits by January 31st, 2014.

Seattle was the "Jumping Off Place" for the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898 and your cruise will take you to Skagway, Alaska where the trek to the Klondike Gold Fields began. You will ride a narrow gage railroad to the top of White Pass where gold seekers built rafts to float 450 miles down the Yukon River to Dawson City and the gold fields. What a cool way to start your reunion adventure !

See you in Seattle...................................Bob and Jim
